COMFORT & AFFECTION
A Therapy Dog is a dog that provides comfort and affection to people in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, schools and courthouses. Dogs that go through training for Therapy Dog Certification must first obtain their AKC Canine Good Citizen and pass the Therapy Dog evaluation. Handlers are also required to attend a volunteer orientation prior to testing. Therapy dogs are not Service Dogs and thus are not protected under law as such. With that said, training your dog to become a certified therapy dog can be the most rewarding experience for both of you!
